PEGASUS PROVIDES ADDITIONAL RESOURCES
IN ADDITION TO FINANCIAL GRANTS
The Pegasus Project Mission Statement:
Our mission is to provide short-term emergency grants for members of the Association of Flight Attendants (AFA) who are in need of financial assistance due to critical, life-threatening, or disabling illness or injury. These efforts are accomplished with compassion, confidentiality and the preservation of dignity and respect for the individuals concerned. While the Pegasus Project’s mission statement is to provide short term grants for members who meet the criteria listed above, the Project also directs members in need to other resources within their community. We hope providing these resources will further assist members in need..
Additional Resources
Local Food Banks (Using an Internet Search Engine....type in food banks or the name of the city you live in followed by food banks for a listing of available Food Banks in your local community.
Call Labor’s Community Service (in most major cities across the country – this agency can sometimes assist with keeping utilities on and stave off a foreclosure on a home – their resources are limited & they usually can only assist in extreme hardship cases. This agency can also direct members to their local Food Banks.
Apply for Food Stamps (Some states are now using cards instead of food stamps books, so the user just swipes their card at the checkout stand, so they look like they are using a debit card. This has made using this program less embarrassing for those participating. Most state programs look at the past 3 months income, so if an applicant is initially denied, we suggest reapplying in 3 months.
Check with Religious Affiliations in your area for assistance
Using Phone Cards Instead of Cell Phones to lower Communication Costs (Phone Cards through Costco and Sam’s Club have a rate of 3.4 cents a minute)
Reducing Utility Bills by calling your local Utility Company to inquire about Hardship Case Plans. Go to http://www.liheap.ncat.org//sp.htm and click on your state for more information on state and private organization assistance
